ZR1X: The Corvette That Could Be GM’s Ultimate ICE Send-Off

During the ZR1 reveal, Chevrolet surprised attendees with a brief view of something even more potent: the ZR1X, a hybrid all-wheel-drive Corvette set to arrive in late 2025. The ZR1X represents a significant advance for the American supercar scene with jaw-dropping specs and performance meant to challenge the best in the world.

A Hybrid Powertrain Not Compromise

Using the same twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 as the ZR1X, it carries on the Corvette tradition of V8 supremacy. This produces a wild 1,064 hp on its own; an additional front electric motor drives the total to 1,250 hp (919 kW).

Running on a 1.9 kWh battery pack improved to store 26% more energy than the system used in the Corvette E-Ray, the electric component runs. The extra juice gives the front motor great off-the-line traction since it helps it to hit 186 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque.

The hybrid all-wheel-drive arrangement enables the ZR1X to hit 0–60 mph in less than two seconds. Even with test ballast, once the car reaches 160 mph the front axle disengages, improving efficiency and enabling the car to hit 233 mph—the same top speed Chevrolet recorded for the ZR1 in Germany.

Chassis Tweaks, Balance, and Braking power

Chevrolet has turned to Alcon’s 16.5-inch carbon-ceramic rotors combined with 10-piston calipers, the biggest and most capable braking system on any GM vehicle, to stop all that speed. Under testing, the car slowed from 180 to 120 mph using a tremendous 1.9 Gs.

Additionally well tuned to control its hybrid heft is the chassis of the ZR1X. The car can generate one G of simultaneous lateral and longitudinal force even though it is roughly 500 pounds heavier than a standard Stingray.

Improvements in software were absolutely crucial. Under regen the E-Ray battled front axle behavior and torque steer. To make the ZR1X more predictable—especially under extreme loads and tire flex—engineers improved traction, torque vectoring, and sensor handling.

Characteristics, Techniques, and Electrified Versatility

Chevy went beyond mere performance figures. Each of the several drive modes included in the ZR1X—Tour, Weather, Endurance, and Qualifying—is finely tuned for particular driving environments. Perfect for fast overtakes or straight-line sprints, a new Push to Pass capability unlocks the full 1,250 hp as needed.

The hybrid powertrain lacks range building capability. Although EV-only driving only covers 3 to 5 miles under 45 mph, this fits the goal of the ZR1X: speed first, efficiency second.

Lower gear torque is strictly limited to safeguard internal components. Chief Engineer Josh Holder points out, “We’re well beyond what the tires can handle anyhow.”

The ZR1X will be presented as a powered convertible as well as a removable hardtop coupe. Though weight could creep close to 5,000 lbs in the later arrangement, AWD traction and improved dynamics still allow it to behave like a track weapon.

Although there is yet no official pricing, insiders believe it to be far less expensive than European rivals and above the $174,995 tag of the ZR1. Consider Ferrari SF90 performance at thirty percent of the price.
