Strange New Worlds Season 3 Looks Like the Boldest Yet

Paramount+ has released an official trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3. The highly anticipated third season will premiere on July 17, 2025, on Paramount+. The new trailer arrives after a small sneak peek teaser trailer was released in April 2024. The official trailer will provide a first look at what1s next for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 had a fairly abrupt ending that will likely set up some of the new season. The Enterprise had been assisting a Federation colony world under attack by the Gorn, but things went awry, and the ship and crew were forced to retreat. However, during the mission, several crew members and other survivors were captured by the Gorn. In the finale, Pike (Anson Mount) had to decide whether to follow Starfleet orders not to risk further resources to attempt a rescue operation or to go against orders and rescue his team. As is typical for Captain Pike, he took the latter course of action and headed back in to try to save his crew.

Last year, Paramount+ and CBS showed some footage during New York City Comic-Con that was later released as an official teaser trailer. It showed where the previous season left off with the space battle between the Enterprise and the Gorn. The official trailer will likely expand upon the previewed action and the fate of the crew members who were left behind on the colony world.

Paramount+ has said the footage from the trailer will include action as the Enterprise crew finally gains the upper hand in the war with the Gorn species. However, the season also promises a new threat that will push the crew to the edge. The new adversaries will test their trust in each other, loyalty to Starfleet, and personal mettle.

Strange New Worlds is said to be expanding upon the episodic format of Star Trek: The Original Series with the new season, mixing in standalone episodes with overarching story arcs. There will also be tone and genre shifts not seen in prior Trek series, Paramount+ said. Some of the episodes coming this season include faith, a look at duty and honor, a love story, a comedy episode, and a mystery episode.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast members will return for Season 3, including all the main cast and familiar recurring cast members. The cast additions for this new season include Cillian OSullivan, who will play a well-known character from The Original Series: Dr. Roger Korby, who was played by Michael Strong in the Trek: TOS episode, Space Seed.

In the Strange New Worlds canon, Korby is a noted archaeologist who specializes in medical archaeology and was Chapels missing fianc. This season will feature Korbys return on board the Enterprise, where its been about two months since he mysteriously disappeared. His surprise return will no doubt have professional and personal repercussions with Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) because they have since moved on, as Chapel has become romantically involved with Spock (Ethan Peck).

Season 3 will also feature special guest stars Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt. The April teaser trailer played up the genre variety in the upcoming season, with clips that seemed to range from action, space opera adventure, to lighter, more comedic side stories. The new trailer seems to follow that lead as well, previewing the crew bonding in downtime, delicately navigating the romantic subplot between Spock and Chapel, and handling the fallout from a potentially dangerous science experiment.

The official trailer also features a look at James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) in the captains chair for the Enterprise. Kirk only gets to sit in the iconic chair for a few moments and brief exchanges with Captain Pike, but his future involvement in the seasons larger arc is not revealed. He is told by Pike, The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with. Kirk being placed in the captains chair is meant to be a teaching moment for him, as the two have not been friends in the established continuity of Strange New Worlds.

The last clip in the trailer features a rare moment of comedy for Spock. Oswalts Vulcan science officer first shows Spock a high five, and when Spock succeeds, hes then asked to demonstrate how to high five down low. Spock complies and does the classic high-five too slow stunt when asked to try again, leaving the other Vulcan befuddled. He asks, Why would you do that? to which Spock replies, Because you are too slow.

Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been officially renewed. The show is currently a hit on Paramount+ and a success with Trekkies and casual viewers.
