In an interview, Carly Pearce shared that she knew her marriage to country singer Michael Ray was “wrong” the night they exchanged wedding vows. The former couple, who married in 2019, got divorced in 2020 after eight months of marriage. In a new episode of Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast, the Grammy Award-winning singer admitted that the romance was more of “lust” rather than “love,” because it developed in a “hot and heavy” manner. “I knew the night I got married that I shouldn’t have,” Pearce said in the interview with Bunnie.

Pearce tied the knot with the ‘Got Me Good’ singer after a whirlwind romance and has always said that it was the best decision of her life. However, she realized during the special occasion that they were just two strangers who “didn’t know each other.” “I just kind of knew, I think it was my gut in my body, that something wasn’t right,” she said.

Pearce Explains How She Knew Something Was Wrong

Pearce married Ray in 2019, and at the time, she did not have any doubts. The couple’s divorce announcement came after eight months of marriage. During the interview, Pearce said she had the strongest feeling while she was walking down the aisle. “When I signed the marriage license, I felt that feeling again,” she said. “I was like, ‘Girl, this is not right. ‘”

The singer, whose famous hits include Every Little Thing and Should’ve Known Better, said that Ray was “the sweetest” and added that she thought marrying him was “the right thing to do.” She said that while Ray was one of the “nicest guys in the world,” the couple only got into a relationship quickly after meeting each other. “I heard he was the nicest guy in the world. We were super, super close in a matter of weeks. I had just been through my parents’ divorce and a breakup, and I found love again and thought it was the right thing to do,” she added.

In hindsight, Pearce admitted that she and Ray “did not have any real conversations” and simply “didn’t know each other.” The singer said the couple got into a “honeymoon stage” in their relationship, and at the time, they both felt the relationship was not going to work. “We were living a life that was kind of not reality,” Pearce said. “We didn’t have real conversations, and we didn’t really know each other. We were living this life and kind of in the honeymoon stage of the relationship, we both knew deep down that it wasn’t going to work.”

The Kentucky native got into a relationship with Michael Ray in 2018. As they hit it off really well, she invited him to the No. 1 party for her song, Every Little Thing. They later went to each other’s parents’ house and married within a year. While she said she did not regret the decision, Pearce and Ray have since gone their separate ways. Ray, whose real name is Michael Degman, has also not made any comments since the split.
