The AI now retains all data from previous user interactions to provide responses that show more personalization and context-awareness through understanding derived from earlier conversations.

The new memory enhancement surpasses the old “Memory” feature, which had limited storage capability for specific information and required users to explicitly tell ChatGPT to remember details.

ChatGPT’s New Memory Features

The memory feature retains its original functionality under the label “Reference saved memories”. The second new feature, called “reference chat history,” delivers a more significant transformation.

The new feature allows ChatGPT to access and utilize the complete history of user interactions as context for generating more personalized and sophisticated responses. Unlike its predecessor, the “saved memories” feature of the “chat history” memory creates records that users cannot access or edit.

The system functions as a complete memory repository that toggles between active and inactive states to deliver full context for AI responses. ChatGPT now analyzes complete interaction history to produce more meaningful and connected dialogues instead of relying only on segmented data.

Today marks the start of a phased launch where the enhanced memory functionality becomes available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers. OpenAI announced that the deployment process will stretch across several weeks, so immediate access to new features will not be available to all subscribers at once. By deploying the feature gradually, OpenAI can observe its performance and fix problems before it reaches general availability.

The initial rollout excludes specific countries and regions such as the United Kingdom, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. Regulatory concerns along with regional factors probably account for this exclusion. OpenAI has yet to announce when this feature will become available in these specific regions.
